# Matrix Account & Clients

> Matrix IDs on Plauder.Party, recommended Cinny client, other Matrix clients, and device/session management.

## Your Matrix ID

Every Plauder.Party user has a unique Matrix ID:

- **@** marks a Matrix address
- **user** is your chosen name on our homeserver
- **plauder.party** is the server (homeserver) where your account lives

Your Matrix ID works like an address for direct messages, room invites, and signing in to clients.

## Recommended clients

You can use the **same account on multiple clients**. Sign in with homeserver `plauder.party`, your Matrix ID, and your password on each device.

### Cinny (recommended)

Cinny is the primary web and desktop client for Plauder.Party. Desktop builds are on [cinny.in](https://cinny.in/) - set homeserver **plauder.party** when logging in.

### Element and other clients

With Element or FluffyChat:

1. Choose **Sign in** → **Use custom server** (wording may vary).
2. Enter **https://matrix.plauder.party** or **plauder.party** as the homeserver *(adjust URL to match your deployment)*.
3. Sign in with your Matrix ID and password.

## Signing in on a second device

1. Install a client or open the web client.
2. Select homeserver **plauder.party**.
3. Sign in with Matrix ID and password.
4. In encrypted rooms: **sync encryption keys** (QR code, passphrase, or key export - depends on the client).

## Devices & security

- **End-to-end encryption (E2EE):** In encrypted rooms, messages are readable only by participants. Back up your keys - otherwise you cannot decrypt old messages on new devices.
- **Review devices:** Under **Settings → Devices** (or **Sessions**) you see all signed-in clients.
- **Sign out unknown devices** and **change your password** if you suspect abuse.
- Enable **two-factor authentication** if your client and homeserver support it.

## Forgot your password?

1. Open the login screen in the web client.
2. Choose **Forgot password**.
3. You need access to the email address used during registration.

## Deleting your account

To remove your account, contact the operators via the channels on the main site. A Matrix account cannot always be fully erased without traces remaining in shared rooms - moderators can explain the process.
